Please join us after the Pre-Departure Orientation to say goodbye to some of the new JETs who will be leaving for Japan the next day.

The location of the event was selected due to the proximity to the hotel where most of the new JETs are staying.

Tom's NFL has street and lot parking. The area looks a little dingy outside, but once you get in it's your typical sports bar.

Friends of JET are welcome at this event.

When: Friday, July 31 at 8:30pm - 10:30pm
Where: Tom's NFL, 5001 NW 36 St, Miami Springs, Florida 33166

Donate for Tohoku from March 10 & 11 to DOUBLE your contribution!

TAMFGG-2015-2x4-horizontal-300x167

JETAA USA is supporting the Taylor Anderson Memorial Foundation for another donation drive that starts when the clock strikes midnight in Japan on March 11. GlobalGiving has once again offered to match these donations!

Last year, the JET Community helped raise nearly $50,000 for the 311 relief and recovery effort. We hope to continue the success of last year’s “JETs Rally for Tohoku” campaign and hope you will join us in showing your ongoing support for Tohoku by going to the Global Giving website on March 11th to make a donation that will be matched.

Online donation drive

Donation website: www.globalgiving.org/fundraisers/jets-rally-for-tohoku

Starts: 12:00 midnight Japan time on 3/11 (11 am EDT, March 10; 8 am PDT, etc)

Ends: When we reach maximum matching amounts ($30,000 total, $15,000 per project)

Background

Three years have passed since the Great East Japan Earthquake and Tsunami and the devastation in Tohoku has largely faded from the news. However, so much remains to be done for the survivors and TAMF has been partnering with a number of organizations in Japan to provide relief and help the people of Tohoku build a strong and vibrant future.

TAMF has provided funding to the following projects:

For more information on TAMF, please go to http://www.taylorandersonmemorialfund.org/, their Facebook page at https://www.facebook.com/taylorandersonmemorialfund, or watch the NHK interview with Jeanne and Andy at https://vimeo.com/86637051.

JETAA USA is proud to partner with TAMF to carry on the support JETs and JET alumni have shown for Japan and the people of Tohoku ever since March 2011.

Details

All donations up to $1,000 per individual donor made to the Taylor Anderson Memorial Fund beginning on March 11th Japan time will be matched by Global Giving through their Japan Match Global Giving program. (Global Giving will charge a 15% facilitation fee to cover their costs, which donors may choose to cover if they wish so that their full donation amount goes to TAMF. See the page for details.)

Social media concepts are up on JETAA USA and ready to be shared!

2013 Florida JETAA Bounenkai in South Florida

Posted by President

Dear JETAA members,

It's that time of the year for our annual JETAA Bonenkai!

This year's JETAA Bonenkai will be once again held at Sekita-san's restaurant, Koume in Plantation (just outside of Miami). Sekita-san was once the former JET coordinator for the Japanese Consulate and helped many of us get into the JET program. He makes delicious food and is an awesome host!

This will be a pre-set meal of $20 per person, which involves several courses: soup, salad, appetizers, sushi, other dishes and desert. That is a lot of food for that amount of money especially since Japanese food is so expensive. Each year, he surprises us with a unique menu. Last year we had nabe and oden on our menu among other things.

The cost of drinks and tip are not included into the deal, so that would be paid separately by you.

This will be a cost-sharing event, meaning that some of the meal will be paid from JETAA funds that will cover part of the meal and you will cover the rest. So the cost can vary depending on how many or how little people come and what drinks you order.

Location: Koume Japanese Restaurant
11905 W. Sunrise Blvd.
Plantation, FL. 33323
Tel: 954-577-9277
(located in the Petsmart Plaza)

Date: December 21, 2013 (Saturday)
Time: 6:30pm

Please RSVP to Wendy, deadline to RSVP is Dec. 13th and tell us if you are bringing a guest. You can RSVP by emailing me at wlo01[at]hotmail.com or on the Facebook event page: https://www.facebook.com/events/1433986693484452/

I hope you can all make it!

If you RSVP and later cannot make it, please have the courtesy and let us know by Dec. 19th, because once we give the final numbers to Sekita-san we have to end up paying for the person who doesn’t show up, which is not fun for those who have to foot your bill.

Hope to see you there!

Wendy Lo

Visit from CLAIR Representatives

Posted by President

Representatives from CLAIR Visit Miami

David (FLJETAA Webmaster), Antonio (a newly returned JET alum), and Bahia (FLJETAA President) attended a dinner with representatives from CLAIR Tokyo, Mr. Shirasaki, Mr. Inoue, and Zachary Bass. The representatives from CLAIR stopped by Miami after visiting Jamaica, then headed back to Japan. They were really interested in what JET alumni in Florida do after JET and if it was related to Japan or if we got into that job or field because of our experience on JET. They were also really interested in whether or not JETAA and JET alumni maintain ties with Japanese people (teachers, students, etc) from our time on JET or if we maintain ties to sister cities of Florida cities.
